The Copper Cup

This time last year, I was recovering from surgery. I had lots of time on my hands whilst on sick leave and one of the things I did lots of was think of my lifelong dream of running my own coffee shop. Little did I know that later that same year, I would have made my dream a reality.

Years ago, I had jokingly earmarked the old butcher’s shop as a perfect coffee shop venue so when it became available in mid-2015, I decided to go and visit it for a closer look. The building itself was in a bit of a sorry state and hadn’t been updated for a couple of decades but despite that, I had a vision and instantly fell in love with the big floor to ceiling windows and the history that came with it.

After some soul searching and weighing up the pros and cons of walking away from my career as an accounting manager, I decided to take a leap of faith and go for it.
My husband and our fitter Jon took on the task of transforming the old butcher’s to what then became ‘The Copper Cup’.

The old walk-in freezer is now a quirky, comfortable seating area for up to 12 people whilst the old butcher’s counter has been replaced with a new kitchen and salad prep counter.

I am passionate about hearty, home cooked food. We have a traditional baked potato oven and offer a range of fillings. We also serve paninis, homemade soups, hot specials and a selection of delicious cakes and treats.

Most people will know that I’ve lost over 9 and a half stone so it’s important that I always have healthy options available on the menu.

Feedback so far has been amazing and we have met some wonderful people. I am so proud that we now have this community ‘hub’ on the Main Street and it’s lovely to see it buzzing and full of so many different people. More often than not, complete strangers will happily chat with one another over coffee.

Having lived in Littleport with my husband and two children for over 11 years, it’s good to be part of something that hopefully brings the community together and helps bring more life back to Main Street.
